Kapture Says a Collector's Cert Scan Caught a Wembanyama From PSA's Stolen List
Two weeks after the FedEx truck theft, collectors are doing the hunting, and the list's biggest Charizards can't sell anywhere that checks a cert.
Kapture, a cert-scanning app, said on its Instagram Tuesday that a user scanned a 2025 Topps Finest Victor Wembanyama Purple Refractor #98 in a PSA 9, numbered 230/250, before buying it and saw it flagged as stolen. The slab's cert is one of the 6,451 items PSA listed after thieves broke into a FedEx truck near its Santa Ana facility on Oct. 13.
The post, also an ad for the app, doesn't say where the card was listed or who was selling it. PSA, Santa Ana police and the FBI haven't confirmed the flag or announced any arrest. Boston Card Hunter, an X account that keeps a crowd list of the stolen cards, posted Tuesday, "Do NOT blame the seller."
A PSA 9 of that Purple Refractor sold for $77 on eBay on Aug. 25. The thieves' best slabs are Pokémon, though the list gives no grades. It holds one 1999 Base Set 1st Edition Charizard and four 2002 Legendary Collection reverse foil Charizards. A PSA 10 of the first sold for $1,380,000 at Fanatics this month, while a PSA 10 of the second went for $463,600 at Goldin on Sunday.
None of them can sell anywhere that checks, because PSA deactivated every stolen cert and sent the list to marketplaces and auction houses. A thief can still crack a slab and sell the card raw.
Heading into Black Friday on Nov. 27, search the cert in CardWire's list of all 6,451 stolen items before you buy a slab from a seller you don't know.
