Bronny Sticks With the Lakers and Knecht Is a Knick Now, but I Wouldn't Buy Either's Kaboom

Dalton Knecht agreed to a two-way deal with the Knicks four days after the Lakers cut him, while Bronny James got the last seven minutes of the Lakers' opening blowout.

The Knicks agreed to sign Dalton Knecht to a two-way contract on Friday, four days after the Lakers waived him in their last cut before opening night. Bronny James got the last roster spot and checked in for the final seven minutes of a 127-105 win over the Warriors, scoring 2 points on 1 of 1 shooting.

Collectors picked Bronny long before the Lakers did. Raw copies of Knecht's 2024-25 Panini Revolution Kaboom! Vertical rookie sold around $562 in the summer of 2025 before one went for $226 on Oct. 18. Bronny's Kaboom sold around $620 that same summer, while a raw copy went for $305 on Sept. 13.

Both cards are the same insert from the same set with both players in Lakers uniforms. On the court, Knecht had the better case last season with 4.2 points in 10.2 minutes a game. Bronny scored 2.9 in 8.9 minutes. But for coach J.J. Redick, it was a choice between two players of similar caliber with no real reason to keep both on the roster.

The graded copies split the same way. A Bronny PSA 9 sold for $456 at auction on Oct. 7, while a Knecht PSA 9 went for $301 back on July 18.

I wouldn't buy either Kaboom until both of them prove they belong on an NBA floor. For Knecht, that means getting called up from the G League and playing real minutes for the Knicks. A two-way deal caps him at 50 NBA games and keeps him out of the playoffs unless New York converts it. For Bronny, it means meaningfully contributing outside of garbage time. If either one is in a rotation by Christmas, I'd take another look at the same $226 and $305 that nobody's fighting over now.
