Connor McDavid's hot streak leads to a rise in his market

His Young Guns PSA 10 sells around $3,500 after he became the fastest player in NHL history to 30 assists.

Connor McDavid is off to a hot start to the season. His cards are rising as a result. In 15 games, he had nine goals and 30 assists, making him the fastest in NHL history to do so. Wayne Gretzky previously set the record to reach 30 assists, taking 16 games to do it in the 1984-85 season. Because Connor McDavid's passing of “The Great One” is so significant, it's another huge reason his cards are rising in value.

2015-16 Upper Deck #201 Connor McDavid Young Guns

McDavid’s most sought-after ‘common’ card is his 2015-16 Upper Deck #201 Young Guns. One thing that sets Upper Deck apart from Topps or Panini is that their premier rookie cards are short-printed. In 2015-16 Upper Deck Series 1, where the McDavid Young Guns can be found, the odds of finding a base Young Guns are 1:4 in hobby packs/retail packs and 1:5 in blaster packs. Topps and Panini don't list odds for base rookie cards; Young Guns, by contrast, are much more expensive because they are short-printed.

The last nine PSA 10 sales, from Oct. 20 to Nov. 1, 2026, sold for a median of $3,700. Since November 3, 2025, the Young Guns PSA 10 has sold 135 times, while a PSA 9 has sold 114 times. Sales are high because he has been one of the best players in the NHL for many years. He is a three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner (league MVP) and a six-time Art Ross Trophy winner as the league’s leading scorer, tying him with Hall of Famers Gordie Howe and Mario Lemieux for second all time, behind Wayne Gretzky with 10. McDavid has many other accolades at such a young age.

The Young Guns card is popular with many collectors because of its liquidity and high demand. McDavid is one of the faces of the National Hockey League and consistently performs at a high level year to year. At only 29, he already has 418 career goals, making it likely he'll reach 600 and beyond, etch his name into the history books, align with some of the game’s greatest players, and become a no-doubt Hall of Famer.

2015-16 O-Pee-Chee Update #U11 Connor McDavid

McDavid’s O-Pee-Chee rookie card is certainly more affordable than his Young Guns card. In a PSA 10 the median sale is $212 (13 sales over the past year). A PSA 9 goes for about $91, while a raw copy is about $43. That likely reflects the card’s desirability and rarity, and the Young Guns card being the marquee card everyone wants. That drives up its price. While the Young Guns is more of a high-end card, the O-Pee-Chee is lower-end and more affordable for collectors and investors who want a lower entry point to a McDavid rookie. Over time, I believe the Young Guns being seen as the flagship rookie drives up the value of the Upper Deck Young Guns, while driving down the value of the O-Pee-Chee. For my money, I’m looking much more at the lower-end O-Pee-Chee to see if a PSA 9 can eventually be worth $200+ making myself room for a lot of profit.
