Joao Fonseca's $2 Topps Chrome Rookie Costs Less Than a Can of Tennis Balls
His 2026 Topps Chrome #23 rookie has sold raw for $1 to $8 since the set came out on Sept. 30. Fonseca, ranked No. 29, won't play again until 2027.
Joao Fonseca's rookie card in 2026 Topps Chrome Tennis, card #23, sold raw for $2 in an eBay auction on Oct. 8. Six raw copies have sold since Topps released the set on Sept. 30, for $1 to $8.
Collectors are buying Fonseca. Sales of cards bearing his name ran 8 in the week of Sept. 21 and 117 in the week of Oct. 5, the first full week the set was out.

Weekly sales of Joao Fonseca cards since late August
The rookie has stayed cheap anyway. A hobby box of the set sells for about $165, while raw copies of the base rookie go at auction for $1 to $2.
Fonseca, 20, won't play again in 2026. In a video on social media, he said he and his team don't think he is in ideal condition to compete at the level he wants. He will skip the Swiss Indoors in Basel, where he is the defending champion, and the Paris Masters. He is No. 29 in the ATP rankings and could slip out of the top 40 once his Basel points come off. His best moment of the year came at Roland Garros in May, where he beat Novak Djokovic from two sets down on his way to his first Grand Slam quarterfinal.
His next match is the Australian Open in January. At $2, we'd pick up a raw copy of the #23 now and hold it for Melbourne.
